Highly recommend! Support Tom, the new owner, he's great! Very friendly staff, excellent BBQ! Overall great atmosphere- lots of history! Live music. Best place to grab a bite to eat or a cool drink after the black chasm cave tour.
We were some of the first people in town this week with the re-opening phases around Amador county. We biked from Sutter Creek to Volcano this week only to arrive and find most places were closed in the afternoon. Not a problem, the Country Store was open and serving burgers! The wonderful woman behind the counter offered us tips for our double-cheesburger and made my husband the best strawberry-malt milkshake he's ever had. We spent a long time recovering from our mostly-uphill bike ride into town, with a pleasant down hill ride back to Sutter Creek. Hearts happy and Bellies full!
Recommend: Double cheeseburger with bacon (def add the BBQ sauce!). I wish I'd seen the sarsaparilla but I'll have to look for it next time!
Prepare to be patient - the conversation and wait are worth it!
My favorite cold beer. Atmosphere that is worthy of my time. Owner Debbie is meant to be doing this business & she has a meat source not disclosed to maintain her spot as #1 on my list. Volcano is worth a trip just to eat here.
We stopped here after visiting the fantastic Black Chasm Cavern. It’s a wonderful historic building with lots of character. Debbie was just as friendly and accommodating as ever! I had a delicious hot pastrami and Swiss sandwich. The beer is nice and cold! We’d go again! Thank you, Debbie, for the Meyers lemons!!
The Best. Debbie serves up a great lunch, sodas, beer, fresh pumpkin pie and fresh hamburger at a good deal, great atmosphere. If you don't see what you can eat, she will fix you something you can, and go the extra step.
The Establishment is old and rustic. But the food was fabulous. Take in consideration there was one person manning the store and the counter. So service was a little slow, but the atmosphere is so nostalgic that I didn't even realize the time it took. Awesome goodness.
This is my favorite place in the sleepy hamlet of Volcano. Debbie Dunn will make you the most delicious hamburgers and sandwiches in her historic brick oven. Great ambiance too!
You made our little trip a "special" adventure.
We popped in on a Saturday afternoon. did you know they have the best homemade canned beef sandwich. Oh and dont forget the homemade macaroni salad.
to top it off, a slice of pie and some ice cream.
thank you thank you
From the brick oven to the self serve beverage cooler, it doesn't get anymore down home than this. The best Brat in the Mother Lode. Genuine Gold Country history and great taste to boot.
When you're in town, stop in the country store and have a beer. It's very old west rustic right down to the locals sitting on the bench outside. You'll love it!
Like sitting around the Cracker Barrel in the old days. Warm and friendly. Tasty food served by the owner. Grab a beverage out of the cooler and chat with the locals.
This is a great place to stop for a nice, relaxing meal. We were welcomed the moment that we stepped through the door. The service could not have been friendlier. Our food was cooked fresh to order, in a stone hearth oven in the wall. The environment is very laid back and comfortable. We felt like we were very welcomd guests. The food was tasty and we thoroughly enjoyed it. We were treated to some interesting local history as well. I highly recommend stopping here if you are in the area.
The city of Volcano has a lot of history and The Country Store is part of it. All items are grilled in a brick indoor barbecue. One of the few places you can still get a grilled Hot Dog. Great for lunch meetings.
When you travel into Volcano, California, save a little room in your tummy for a sandwich & glass of wine at The Country Store. Its a quaint little place right smack dab in the middle of a very little town.
If you ever get the chance to travel through Volcano, stop at the Country Store and tell Debbie that the full time RVers from Saint Augustine, Florida said "hello". Maybe, if your lucky and one of the last customers of the day, Debbie might just bring you a sampling of their bread pudding & banana bread for FREE like she did for us. Awesome!
We stopped for a walk through Volcano...I mean, who could drive through without stopping??... We were hungry and when we stopped in to see the inside of the Country Store we realized that they served food and it was just what we needed. One side of the store is an actual store...but half of that is done up in almost a museum quality with a display of antique glass bottles and such. The other side is a full stone building with a fun indoor grill and tables made from old wire spools. The two ladies working the place were delightful...it's kind of a "we'll settle up with you when you're all done" sort of place (because I had picked up some greeting cards from the store side). They had some pretty decent wine (4 varieties) for $1.75 a glass. Yes...I did not make a mistake...though I thought I might be reading it wrong myself. My son and I had corndogs and my husband had a burger...cooked right there in the indoor bbq.
My boyfriend and I visted Volcano about a year ago and are planning another trip there in a couple weeks. Last year we stopped by the Country Store for a couple drinks and it was great. We ended up staying there a lot longer than we expected. This is a cute and cozy little town and the country store fits right in. They serve food, although we had already eaten, everything sounded great and was priced even better. We are definitely planning on visiting the country store when we're out there in a couple weeks again!
